Who invented the Massage Mitts?

The Massage Mitts are designed by state registered and chartered physiotherapist Sandra Whittle. She original designed them to protect her hands form repetitive strain injuries after massaging multiple patients in her busy ‘hands on’ approach physiotherapy clinic.

The massage mitts were used for massaging patients that requested massage for a variety of reasons. An in house clinic survey revealed that out of the 455 patients surveyed 98% preferred their massage with the mitts as opposed to bare hands. The Massage Mitts are patented and a lot of care and attention has gone into the design features.

Patients started borrowing the mitts to use at home, it soon became apparent the benefits for patient to self-massage in-between treatment session. Not only did it give some of the control and responsibility back to the patient, it empowered them to help themselves and to move away from the ‘you do it for me’ culture.

We know there are many health benefits from self-massaging; it will ease tense, fatigued, painful muscles and repetitive strain conditions. Self-massage stimulates the body’s own physiological responses to enhance repair, promote healing, remodel tissue, reduce swelling and decrease associated strain that cause dysfunction and pain.

“I am devoting the rest of my physiotherapy career encouraging people to help themselves to live and move with as little pain as possible. I want to be part of the revolution that gets people motivated to take more control of their own pain destiny.”

Let’s face it you know our body’s better than anyone else and we should be taking responsibility for them.
